Find a LASIK Surgeon in Your Area:

Vision Disorders

Vision disorders can be the result environmental factors, or simply the consequence of getting older. Sometimes, diagnosing the disorder and its causation can be difficult, and the treatment can be complex.

LASIK eye surgery is only efficient at correcting the three most common refractive errors of the eye – hyperopia, myopia and astigmatism.

LASIK eye surgery is not effective for presbyopia.  Presbyopia affects people as they enter their 40s. The eye lens becomes more crystalline and less flexible and causes the need to wear reading glasses or bifocals. Unfortunately, presbyopia is not curable by  laser treatment or any other type of surgery.

Other common vision disorders that are not treatable with LASIK are cataracts and glaucoma.

The clouding of the corneal lens causes cataracts. With modern medical technology, cataracts are routinely treated safely and effectively using microsurgical techniques.

Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that are characterized by intraocular pressure levels that damage the optic nerve and nerve fibers that form parts of the retina in the back of the eye.  Glaucoma is treated with medication and microsurgery to reduce the pressure on the optic nerve.
