LASIK Eye Surgery and Pregnancy

LASIK eye surgery is not advised at all for pregnant women. This is because hormones produced during pregnancy and nursing can cause the cornea to become unstable. This affects the eye’s ability to refract and alters your vision. Many women experience this as blurry vision.

The blurry vision associated with pregnancy hormones is temporary, and vision typically returns to normal after pregnancy and breast-feeding.

If you are pregnant and you have had LASIK eye surgery or some other form of laser vision correction, you may notice changes in your vision that may even require a temporary prescription for glasses or contacts. Once you stop nursing your eyes will return back to how they were after they were corrected by LASIK eye surgery.

To conclude – women who are pregnant or nursing should not have laser vision correction of any time. You need to wait until your eyes stabilize again after giving birth or after stopping nursing.
